About the Smethwick Heritage Centre & Community Hub

Smethwick Heritage Centre & Community Hub offers a chance to explore Smethwick’s vast history. We are a volunteer run museum and we also organise roadshows and other events which are quite often free to attend. Plus, to raise the funds to support the Centre we organise Events such as Talks, Plays & Concerts. These usually incur a charge to cover expenses & generate funds. They are normally well supported.

The Museum is situated in the former Lodge in Victoria Park, where numerous pieces of memorabilia are housed and displayed. This gives us the chance to see and remember Smethwick as it once was. We also depend upon stories and archives from those who remember Smethwick and are interested in its heritage.

Here is how you can reach us by train, plane and automobile. See you soon!

GETTING INVOLVED

Passionate about Smethwick?

Like to come along and lend a hand?

Whatever your background, whatever your skills, there are ways you can get involved:

    In the museum

We need enthusiastic people to man the desk. We need people to provide a warm welcome to visitors, to enjoy and share stories about the area, to reminisce about Smethwick.

    Behind the scenes

There are research projects underway. We need people with skills to investigate the background to many of Smethwick’s industries, schools, etc

    Cataloguing

Perhaps you can help to sort and catalogue our many artefacts and photographs.

    Exhibitions

Maybe you can help us prepare and setup stands at our exhibitions.

    Roadshows

We can always use more muscle to help us setup stands at our Roadshows, or just simply make refreshments!

    Only a few hours

All we need is just a few hours a week, usually between 11 am and 3 pm on a typical working day. These are mainly Thursday & Friday, plus Saturday if there is an Event taking place. Actual days/ hours can be flexible. Add to this a touch of enthusiasm and a passion for Smethwick, then whatever your background, you can help us keep Smethwick’s history alive.
